Amaco Sky Celadon

Amaco Sky Celadon is glaze #11 in my commercial glaze tests. One of Amaco's popular Celadon line of glazes, Sky lives up to its name with a beautiful translucent blue. As with most 'celadons', texture shows through on lighter clays, with the deeper areas darker color, the raised areas lighter. Even fine texture will show up. Celadons look best on white clays, but show some color on darker clays. On the Brown Bear you'll see some bubbles, this is trapped gas and is common on dark clays. A longer bisque fire may get rid of the bubbles, but I usually don't try to make a glaze look good through altering the schedule or glaze; there's lots of glazes that look good on the dark clay, I just accept that all glazes won't look good on all clays.Celadon type glazes are reliable, they don't run and you won't see a lot of variation between pieces. Dipped for 3 seconds, fired to cone 5 1/2 on Kentucky Mudworks and Standard (112) clays.
